Ecovadis Assessment Information Sheet

Ecovadis is an organization operating worldwide, which carries out CSR assessments in 150 countries; 50.000+ companies have been assessed. Their aim is to make CSR performance measurable, increase transparency and stimulate improvement. More information can be found at: Select ‘about’ in the horizontal bar, and then the topic of your choice.

The selection and weight of the assessment questions is based on:
• Buyer/supplier role -> Xindao has a supplier role
• Category -> Xindao is part of the category ‘Wholesale of other household goods’
• Size -> Xindao’s size is based on the number of employees and turnover
• Location -> Xindao’s main office is in The Netherlands, the assessment includes our Printmasters printing facility and our office in Shanghai.

The four main subjects (plus some examples) of the assessment are:
• Environment (e.g. CO2 emissions, product safety, waste handling, recycling)
• Labour & Human Rights (e.g. personnel health & safety)
• Ethics (e.g. policies corruption/fraud, responsible marketing, recall procedures, ethical sourcing)
• Sustainable Sourcing (e.g. supplier audits, policy on sustainable products)

Depending on the points scored in the total assessment there are several levels which can be reached: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Xindao has the GOLD rating for 2018 and 2019.

The assessment is carried out yearly in September, it is Xindao’s responsibility to initiate the re-assessment and improvement needs to be continuous to keep or improve the rating.

Why Ecovadis:
• It has a wide scope
• It gives importance to documentation
• It gives importance to actions
• It gives importance to reporting and accountability
• It encourages to set goals
• It measures third party certification/audit (BSCI, ISO, Sedex etc.) within the assessment.
• It values individual company initiatives in the CSR field

Xindao already has a tradition in CSR, going back to 2008. For us the Ecovadis assessment and result is an important indicator as to where we stand and how we can move forward.
